UZH Foundation
Together for a Strong UZH
In 2022, the UZH Foundation celebrated its tenth anniversary.
Since its establishment in 2012, the UZH Foundation – the fundraising arm of the University of Zurich – has been passionately committed to boosting Zurich and Switzerland as a research location, seeking ways and means to provide targeted support for UZH projects and initiatives. Where financial resources for urgent cutting-edge research are lacking, the UZH Foundation raises private funds for university projects. And it does so extremely successfully: in the last ten years, the UZH Foundation has already been able to acquire around CHF 300 million from 1,700 donors for the university, award around 270 prizes and scholarships to junior researchers through its own sub-foundations, and give around 20,000 children an insight into university research through the Children’s University of Zurich.
The work of the UZH Foundation benefits young and old alike, including those who have little contact with university research and everyday academic life. Examples are a professorship in the new subject area of gender medicine, the first of its kind in Switzerland, to examine differences in the way women and men get sick and respond to treatment, and the Re-Trans research initiative to address issues related to displacement and resettlement of populations due to extreme climatic events. “Together for a strong university” – this is what the UZH Foundation stands for, both today and in the future.
